Welcome to our research page!

Briefly... I, my students, and colleagues investigate tectonic processes and associated deformational structures to understand their significance on basin evolution, magmatism, and occurrence of natural resources (i.e. petroleum, ore deposits). My research projects aim to provide a better understanding of kinematics and dynamic processes shaping our planet.

My research interests include (but not limited):

  • Tectonic and Structural Evolution of Highly-extending Terrains: Metamorphic core complex formation, detachment faulting, extensional deformation

  • Interaction between tectonics and magmatism in post-collisional tectonic settings

  • Structural and tectonic controls on the occurrence and distribution of natural resources (i.e. petroleum, ore deposits)

Past and Ongoing Projects:

  • Main geologic factors controlling formation and distribution of banded iron formation-hosted gold deposits in Black Hills region, SD.

  • Multidisciplinary Investigation of structural controls on gold mineralization in Bare Mountain-Fluorspar Canyon Core Complex, NV

  • Structural Analysis by interpretation of 3D Seismic Survey in Delaware Basin, TX (Shilpika Podali, MS Thesis, 2018)

  • Investigation of structural controls on Tertiary intrusions of Northern Black Hills Region, SD

  • Interaction between extensional faulting and post-collisional magmatism in Western and Central Anatolia, Turkey

  • Structural controls on mineralization at Marigold Mine, Humboldt County, NV: A detailed structural analysis of the Terry Complex (Anthony Gesualdo, MS Thesis, completed in 2016)

  • Investigation of petrophysical features and unconventional reservoir characteristics of the Mowry Shale, Powder River Basin, Wyoming (Ethan Melville, MS Thesis, completed in 2015)

My research projects involve structural geology, sedimentology and basin analysis, geochronology and thermochronology, petrological investigations.
